This beautiful castle rises above the perimeter walls of an ancient parish church dating back to 1000. It has a fascinating history, and to learn it you must visit. Briefly, it was owned by a Duke, passed on to the Jesuit fathers, during Napoleonic occupation the castle and lands became an appanage of the viceroy of Italy – relating to Napoleon Bonaparte. In 1846 the assets we re acquired by the Papal state and then sold. During World War II the building was bombed an d occupied by both warring parties.
The present owners have made careful restoration and reinstatement of the structure. Surrounded by a secular park with oak trees planted in 1844 and 17 hectares of parkland with shaded pathways, to enjoy peace and quiet. It has a splendid flower garden. In the town nearby there are bars, restaurants, pizzerias.
An old chapel is accessed from the castle’s inside courtyard. The old castle kitchen has a brickwork service block and large 19th century style fireplace with a traditional wood burning oven.
