The Gran Teatro La Fenice, located in San Marco in campo San Fantin, is today the main Opera House of Venice.
Twice destroyed and rebuilt.
It is one of the largest theaters in Italy.
It was built by Antonio Selva in 1790 and opened in 1792.
In the 1935 became a public theater and was property of the city of Venice.
Destined to rise from its own ashes twice as a phoenix.
A fire destroyed it in 1836 and was rebuilt identical to the original.
In 1996 a second fire destroyed it completely, it was reopened 7 years later in 2003 perfectly identical.
Famous lyric authors: Gioacchino Rossini, Vincenzo Bellini, Giuseppe Verdi (La Traviata) etc.
